Yin Zhi


Zhi Yin was born in Changzhou, China. She began playing piano at the age of seven. She completed her studies at the Russian Gnessin Music School and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she graduated with distinction. In 2011, Zhi went on to study in the United States at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. In 2018, she obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Boston University.

During Zhi’s development as a musician, she was guided by renowned pianists Naum Shtarkman, Pavel Nersessian, Boris Slutsky, Arkady Sevidov, and Ying Wu. She was awarded major prizes at the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., the Harrison Winter Concerto Competition in Baltimore, the Campillos International Piano Competition in Spain, the International Competition “XXI Century Art” in Ukraine, and the Balakirev International Piano Competition in Russia.

Zhi is a Steinway Artist and a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Society in the United States. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and China. Her performances have taken place at numerous venues, including the Small Hall and Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Concert Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic, Sochi Winter Theatre, Dean Acheson Hall at the U.S. Department of State, Russian Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall, and Hangzhou Grand Theatre, among others.

She has been invited to perform at international festivals such as the Sochi Winter Arts Festival, Stars on Baikal Music Festival in Irkutsk, Puerto Rico Ponce International Music Festival, and China Shanghai International Arts Festival. In 2019 and 2022, Zhi released two solo albums, Tchaikovsky and Uncharted Area. She has also performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the National Ballet of China, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Youth Orchestra, Russian Irkutsk State Symphony Orchestra, German Kassel Chamber Orchestra Louis Spohr, and others.
