Elizabeth Schumann


Praised by The Washington Post for her “deft, relentless, and devastatingly good” performances, Dr. Elizabeth Schumann, pianist, has performed at the Kennedy Center, Vienna’s Bösendorfer Saal, Montreal’s Place des Arts, San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall, Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall, Ravinia’s Rising Stars Series, Australia’s Huntington Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival. Her performances have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today and PBS. She received the Gilmore Young Artist Award, first-prize in the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition, and received awards in the Cleveland, Hilton Head, Montreal, and World International Piano Competitions.

Her work spans concerts, public art, and educational projects. Piano Carnival grew from a 15-city tour into a book, CD, and apps reaching more than 20,000 students. Son et Lumière transformed outdoor spaces with live music and large-scale video projection, drawing audiences of 8,000. Pianimal brought performances to children’s hospitals through national partnerships.

Rooted in the pedagogical tradition of her teacher, Sergei Babayan, Dr. Schumann is the Billie Bennett Director of Keyboard Studies and Assistant Professor of Music at Stanford University, where her interdisciplinary research advances equity, accessibility, and longevity in piano performance. She founded the Schumann Studio in San Francisco, serving students, professionals, and industry.
