Benjamin Loh


A native of Singapore, Benjamin Loh earned his B.Sc. in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music under Dr. Marc Silverman. In Singapore, he studied with the late Mrs. Lucien Wang. Since returning home, he has balanced teaching and performing, with many students winning prizes and continuing their studies at top institutions such as Juilliard, Eastman, Manhattan School of Music, École Normale de Musique de Paris, Royal College of Music, and Mozarteum University. He is active as a chamber musician, performing locally and internationally.

Mr. Loh is in demand as a teacher, giving lectures and master classes in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Bulgaria, Italy, Costa Rica, and the U.S.A. He served on the faculty and as International Advisor for the Asia International Piano Academy & Festival (AIPAF) in South Korea from 2008 to 2014.

He has also taught at festivals and institutions including the Opus One International Music Festival, Montecito International Music Festival, Colburn School, University of Iowa, Adam Gyorgy Castle Academy, Eumyoun International Music Festival, Amalfi Coast Music Festival, and others. As an adjudicator, he has served on juries for major competitions across Asia and the U.S., and was Artistic Director of the Singapore Steinway Youth Piano Competition.

Previously, Mr. Loh was a music critic for The Straits Times and The Business Times, Vice-President of the Singapore Music Teachers Association, and Head of Music at NAFA. He has taught at LASALLE College of the Arts and NAFA, and maintains a private studio. He was on the Advisory Committee of the Singapore National Arts Council National Piano and Violin Competition and is an Honorary Consultant of The Amigos Music Society of Hong Kong. In 2005, he received the Special Recognition Award from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts for his contributions to the arts.

Mr. Loh is a Steinway Artist and Steinway Honorary Professor.
