About Us

August 2-17, 2012

I was 3 years old, sitting on my mother`s knees, Arthur Rubinstein was playing a Chopin nocturne and what i remember is tears:

everyone around me was moved to tears.

What do young musicians dream of?  to move people, to be inspired by masters, to play in magical places, to feel nurtured,

to play with an orchestra.         We do all this in Perugia !! with an Italian accent, Italian beauty and love of life.

What matters to me most is for music to affect people.  We read the tale written by the composer with our playing hands, to the

audience, our singing tone speaking the music meant to resonate with all.

To know what makes music great, to have it come alive is our mission.

There are millions of musicians in the world: with energy and passion, our passion could move the world.

Over two weeks in the summer, Music Fest Perugia provides a challenging but inviting environment for young performers aimed at keeping the classical repertoire vibrant and alive. During the festival, students take private lessons, perform in master classes and have the opportunity to fill Perugia`s beautiful and historic halls (Sala dei Notari and Basilica di San Pietro, the latter a favorite of Herbert Karajan and Maria Callas) with recitals and concerti accompanied by our excellent festival orchestra.

We had the privilege of having legendary pianist and pedagogue Gary Graffman last year.

Next year we are fortunate to have in addition to our founding fathers new star collaborators:

Sergei Babayan famous international pianist, conductor and pedagogue at Cleveland Istitute of Music. Among his many famous students Daniil Trifonov has just won first prize in the Rubinstein and Tschaikovsky Competition. Sergei will conduct Beethoven No. 1 concerto among other piano concerti.

John Perry Chair of Piano at Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, legendary pianist and pedagogue.

Peter Frankl world famous pianist and professor. Artist in residence at YaleUniversity.

Nicholas Mann world famous violinist, founding member of the Mendelssohn string quartet and dean of the violin department at Manhattan school of music.

While the festival has historically been based on young pianists, we have since gone on to incorporate vocalists and strings. The stage production of "Le Nozze di Figaro" in Castiglione del Lago was a huge success and we will be mounting next year "The Barber of Siviglia" in a fully stage production.

Many of the Music Fest Perugia participants have gone on to worldwide prestigious competitions such as The Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Ettlingen International Competition in Germany and the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Israel.

We are looking forward to an exciting 2012 season and we will keep you updated on the News flash so please check our website as often as your schedule allows.
